Lindberg, Rouse Take Wins as Modified Run Double Features at Merrittville

THOROLD, Ontario (June 27th, 2026) … As Merrittville Speedway celebrated their School’s Out For Summer Bash presented by Bobcat of Hamilton, race fans were treated to a full night of racing including double features in the Commercial Auto Electric 358 Modifieds. Gary Lindberg of Ridgeway, ON claimed the victory in the first feature which was a make up of the June 6th event that was rained out after heat racing, while Brad Rouse of Fort Erie, ON claimed the second modified feature of the night. In the Baron Roofing/Semenuk’s ESSO DIRTcar Sportsman, Cody McPherson of St. Catharines claimed his fifth feature win of the season. Port Colborne, ON’s Josh Sliter returned to victory lane in the Rona Doidge Modified Lites. Dave Bailey of Hagersville, ON continued his winning ways in the Hoosier Stocks while Port Robinson, ON native Braden Keus scored the victory in the All Star Concrete Four Cylinders.

In the first feature event of the evening, the Commercial Auto Electric 358 Modifieds made up for the rain shortened evening June 6th, running 30 laps. Scott Wood led the race early from the pole. The first caution came at the race’s half way point when Justin Sharp lost power and came to a halt. Wood led the field back to green and immediately Gary Lindberg and Brad Rouse established themselves as the fastest cars in the field. However, their charge was temporarily halted when Jay Mallory went around while running in the top five, collecting Fred Carleton and Brian Page. After the race resumed, Rouse moved up to second with nine laps to go, with Lindberg in tow. They both passed Scott Wood with five laps to go, and began settling the win amongst themselves. Lindberg was able to get under Rouse out of turn four coming to two laps to go, muscling by in the next set of corners on route to his third feature win of the season at Merrittville.

In the second feature of the evening, Rouse would start from pole with the same amount of speed in his race car. Other than fellow front row starter Boyd MacTavish leading the first lap, Rouse was perfect, pacing the field. On lap 11, Justin Sharp and Ken Winfield spun in turn 1 and on the restart, Jay Mallory was once again turned around in a stack up in corner four that also collected Carleton in Page in an oddly similar incident as the first feature. By the time the race reached its half way point, Mike Bowman had driven up to second. As the laps closed, and Rouse became bogged down in lap traffic, Bowman got within a car length of the leader. However, he ran out of laps and Rouse hung on to score his second feature win of the season.

Noah Mamo and Russell Friesen led the field to green in the Baron Roofing/Semenuk’s ESSO DIRTcar Sportsman feature. Mamo paced the field early with Brendan Zimmerman giving chase. By lap 11, Cody McPherson had driven up to third, eventually grabbing the second spot before a caution with 10 to go. McPherson jumped on Mamo to wrestle the lead away as the race went back to green, and one lap later Mamo’s solid run came to an end as he bolted to the pits with a problem. Nigel Pendykoski and Billy Bleich Jr. tangled in the closing laps to set up a single-file restart in the closing laps. McPherson would be no match for the field and take his fifth feature win of the season.

In the Rona Doidge Modified Lites, the field saw cautions twice in the opening five laps of the event. Josh Sliter took the lead from Anthony Kelly and appeared to be cruising to a sure fire win. However, Cole Hardy spun out of corner four on the white flag lap, pushing the race into overtime. Sliter held off charges from Kelly and third place Chris Watson, picking up his first win of the season.

The Hoosier Stock feature saw tight racing throughout the front runners, as cars bounced off one another, jockeying for position early. After a caution on lap 6, Kyle Pelrine got by Chris Crowe to take the top spot. Jason Fontaine tried to follow suit and tangled with Crowe, allowing Fawcett and Bailey both to get by. Pelrine did his best to defend both high and low as Fawcett and Bailey attacked from both lanes. After Fawcett bounced off Pelrine’s back bumper, Bailey was able to use a high to low move to get inside position, and eventually take the lead and the win. The victory was Bailey’s 75th of his career in Hoosier Stock competition at Merrittville.

Jacob Mamo and Cierra Keus lead the field to green, however after an early caution, it was Cierra’s brother Braden, who got out to the lead. After a second caution for Dave Wininger spinning in turn one, Keus ran away on the restart. Rob Goulding and Ken Hair both had strong cars, but neither could separate from the pack as needed to run down Braden Keus. Cierra Keus would settle for fourth, with Connor Chambers having a stellar run in fifth.
