Lindberg, McPherson, Bailey Notch Victories and Robison Breaks Through For First Win

THOROLD, Ontario (June 20th, 2026) … On the eve of Father’s Day, another full grandstand was on site for Rankin Construction Night at Merrittville Speedway. The Baron Roofing/Semenuk’s Esso DIRTcar Sportsman ran double features, making up for the weather affected night on June 6th. Both features were won by Cody McPherson of St. Catharines, ON. Rideway, ON native Gary Lindberg won the Commercial Auto Electric 358 Modified feature. Dave Bailey of Hagersville, ON scored the win in the Hoosier Stock Duel on the Dirt feature. Sierra Robison of Port Colborne, ON scored her first feature win in the All Star Concrete Four Cylinders.

Justin Sharp and Ken Winfield lead the field to green in the Commercial Auto Electric 358 Modifieds. Sharp took the lead on the opening lap and built a comfortable margin over the field. Meanwhile, Gary Lindberg, who started 15th, began to mount a patient charge to the front. Picking his way through the top 10, Lindberg began to close on the top just past the race's half way point. Sharp remained largely untouched throughout the feature but eventually was caught with seven to go. Lindberg was able to get to Sharp’s inside and slip through to the top spot, taking the win in a feature that played out very similar to the first night of the season when James Friesen beat Sharp. Sharp’s second place finish was much needed after a string of bad luck, while Mike Bowman drove from 13th to third to take the final spot on the podium.

The Baron Roofing/Semenuk’s ESSO DIRTcar Sportsman opened the evening with a make up feature dating back to June 6th. John Babion and Elijah Knutt started from the front row. Baboon got out to an early lead, before the first caution came at lap nine when Nigel Pendykoski and Matt Sharpe were both forced to stop with damage. On the restart, Cody McPherson quickly picked up two spots to third. He grabbed second a lap later from Madyson Rouse, and then took the lead just before the halfway point. On lap 17, Russel Friesen came to a halt on the back stretch, leading to a restart. A multi car crash that involved nearly half the field came on the restart when Madyson Rouse was turned from the outside of the second row. With a large portion of the contenders damaged or out, McPherson was able to lead the remaining laps and pick up the win.

In the second feature, it was a similar ending but McPherson took a very different path to the checkered flag. Four cautions in the feature's first eight laps affected the race's flow. At lap eight, as the field came to green, McPherson spun from seventh after help from behind, sending him to the rear with 17 to go. Bill Gill was able to take the top spot away from Madyson Rouse followed by Noah Mamo, as the field began to click off laps. Nigel Pendykoski made it a three car breakaway at the front, while McPherson had miraculously recovered to fourth with seven laps to go. As the three ahead raced, anchored to the low side of the track, McPherson made the top side work to pass the three front runners and steal his second win of the evening.

The Hoosier Stocks contested a Duel on the Dirt multi-track championship event Saturday night at Merrittville Speedway. Dave Bailey led the field to green but it was Mark Fawcett who jumped out to the early advantage. Fawcett appeared to have the advantage on the short run while Bailey’s car came alive after a few laps, allowing him to get back by for the lead on lap four. The top two cars separated from the field while Steve Shaw and Kyle Pelrine battled for third. On lap 14, the race saw its first caution for Kevin Kocarik coming to a stop on the back stretch. On the restart, Bailey and Fawcett once again got away, while Shaw led a pack of drivers from third on back. The seven or so cars battled side by side until Jason Fontaine cut a tire and brought out the yellow while racing inside the top five. When green flag racing returned, Fawcett launched his best challenge for the top spot since the opening laps, getting to Bailey’s inside. However, he was unable to complete the pass and Bailey hung on to win once again at Merrittville Speedway.

Sierra Robison and Connor Chambers started from the front row of the All Star Concrete Four Cylinders. Robison took the top spot early in search of her first win, while Clinton Barrick moved into second. After multiple cautions in the race’s first five laps, Robison was able to get into a rhythm and click off stout laps while the field battled behind. The battle from second through 10th raged on, resembling pack racing on a super speedway. Nobody was able to break free to run down Robison, who broke through to win a feature for the first time at Merrittville Speedway.
