Thompson Takes His First, Thorne Duels To The Top on Fall Brawl Night 1 At Merrittville

THOROLD, Ontario (October 3rd, 2025) … Race fans at Merrittville Speedway were treated to an action packed night on a balmy night one of the Inaugural Fall Brawl presented by Glenn Styres Racing. Gary Lindberg of Ridgeway, ON scored the win in the Commercial Auto Electric 358 Modifieds. Cody McPherson of St. Catharines closed out his incredible season at Merrittville Speedway with yet another trip to victory lane in the Semenuk’s ESSO/Baron Roofing DIRTcar Sportsman. In Crate Sprint Car action, Brantford, ON’s Cam Thompson broke through for his first career win. Rob Murray of St. Catharines, ON picked up the win in the Hoosier Stock Feature. The All Star Concrete 4 Cylinders ran the final event of their APC Auto Parts Centre Duel on the Dirt season with Smithville, ON native Leroy Buscomb winning the feature while Wayde Thorn of Waterford, ON won the championship.

Scott Wood and Nelson Mason lead the field to green in the Commercial Auto Electric 358 Modified’s who followed the DIRTcar rule book, as the field dropped the sail panels seen all season long. The race saw its first caution on lap two when multiple drivers spun on the entry to turn three, including James Friesen, Tommy Flannigan and Ken Winfield. On the restart, Scott Wood established a lead ahead of Nelson Mason, who was caught and passed by track champion Gary Lindberg. Lindberg ran down Wood, and spent several laps in a tight side by side battle, before taking the lead on lap 11. One lap later, Wood retook the top spot, however the lead would be short lived as his car began to smoke heavily, handing the lead back to Lindberg. A caution with 10 laps to go for a spin by Glenn Styres set up a dash to the finish. While Brad Rouse was able to get around Nelson Mason for second and Tyler Willard slipped by Justin Sharp for fourth, no one was able to run down Lindberg, who went on to win.

The Semenuk’s ESSO/Baron Roofing DIRTcar Sportsman held one more event on the 2025 calendar at Merrittville Speedway Friday night. The race began with Doug Walsh and Tyler Puchalski out front, with Puchalski taking the lead early. Track Champion Cody McPherson grabbed the lead on the fifth lap after starting third. On lap 10, Puchalski was tracked down by Mitch Dumont, and as they battled Brett Senek drew closer to both drivers from fourth. Senek was able to get by both of them and get a shot at McPherson after a restart with six laps to go. The challenge was short lived as Senek got to McPherson’s outside but nothing further. One final spin as McPherson was coming to the white flag set up a green white checkered finish where McPherson held off Senek, with Dumont, Puchalski and Martin Polhill rounding out the top five.

The Crate Sprint Cars made a rare appearance at Merrittville Speedway with Cam Thompson and Adrian Stahle set to lead the field to green. The feature was marred by multiple cautions early, including on a multicar wreck on a restart at lap six that saw Cam MacKinnon flip in turn one. The race calmed following that incident and the choice to run single file restarts for the remainder of the future. Thompson led, building an advantage on Mikey Kruchka. Crate Sprint heavy weight Jacob Dykstra used the early restarts and extending green flag run to move up from 10th to third, closing on the top two in traffic. Kruchka had the first shot to challenge polesitter Thompson, getting within three car lengths with nine laps to go. However, with three to go, Kruchka ran a little too high in turn four, dipping a tire over the berm, and surrendering second to Dykstra. Dykstra failed to close on Thompson who secured the first win of his Crate Sprint career.

The Hoosier Stocks began their feature with a frantic and furious pace that saw five cars race under a blanket in the opening laps. Rob Murray would emerge from fifth to take the top spot before a caution on lap three when George Grosul and Bella General tangled. The second and final caution of the race came at lap nine when Liam Shwedyk had a solo spin with Murray still out front. While Murray cruised at the front of the back, Kyle Pelrine and Dave bailey spent much of the final 10 laps running side by side for the second position. Pelrine eventually prevailed but ran out of laps to challenge Murray for the win. The Hoosier Stocks will race in the final APC Auto Parts Centre Duel on the Dirt event of the season Saturday night at Merrittville Speedway.

In All Star Concrete 4 Cylinder action, 31 drivers showed up attempting to make the final APC Auto Parts Centre Duel on the Dirt feature for mini stocks. Wayde Thorne came into the night as the points leader, however his night was anything but easy. He had to come through the B Main, and then suffered a flat tire early in the race's 25 lap feature. All the while, his rival in the multi-track championship Mason Anderson, had found his way to the front of the field, and appeared to be in position to take the championship. The race saw a lengthy red flag after an incident between Brendan Lefrancois and John Lubeck where Lefrancois lost control of his car and slammed into the outside wall before rolling down the front stretch. Lefrancois would be okay, but a career night ended on the wrecker. After another caution, Ken hair took over the top spot from Anderson who began to fade with what appeared to be a suspension problem. Leroy Buscumb, back in the series after racing mostly in Modified Lites throughout 2025, rallied from an early tire problem, drove from the back to second behind Hair. Anderson’s car finally gave out with five laps to go, ending the conversation for the Duel on the Dirt title, however the feature win was far from settled. Buscumb found a way past Hair in the five lap shootout and scored $1000 for his efforts, while Thorne claimed the multitrack season long title Duel on the Dirt crown for MinI Stocks.

Night 2 of the Fall Brawl at Merrittville Speedway will happen Saturday Night, headlined by the Southern Ontario Sprints, who will settle their points championship in a $5000 to win feature. The Hoosier Stocks will race in the finale of APC Auto Parts Centre Duel on the Dirt in a feature that pays $1200 to win. In addition, the Commercial Auto Electric 358 Modifieds, Rona Doidge Modified Lites and All Star Concrete 4 Cylinders will be in action as well. Pit Gates will open at noon for Enduro Tech. Grandstand Gates open at 4:30pm and the carnage will get underway at 6pm. For more information, visit www.merrittvillespeedway.com and can follow the action on My Race Pass.
