Lindberg Cruises to All Canadian Tribute Weekend Win
THOROLD, Ontario (August 2nd, 2025) … All Canadian Tribute Weekend at Merrittville Speedway kicked off with all five Bobcat of Hamilton Weekly Racing Series in action as Niagara Employment Help Centre presented the evening. In keeping with All Canadian tradition, all five divisions began with timed hot laps, with the top four finishers in each heat entering a redraw. Gary Lindberg of Ridgeway, ON dominated the Commercial Auto Electric 358 Modified feature. St. Catharines, ON’s Cody McPherson won the Semenuk’s ESSO/Baron Roofing DIRTcar Sportsman feature. The Rona Doidge Modified Lite feature went to Tyler Winger of Ridgeway, ON. The Hoosier Stock feature was won by Hagersville, ON native Dave Bailey while the All Star Concrete 4 Cylinder feature was won by Rob Goulding of Port Colborne, ON.
The Commercial Auto Electric 358 Modified feature began with Shayne Pierce and Pete Bicknell on the front row. Bicknell got out to an early lead before a caution in the opening laps. Mike Bowman threw a dive bomb on Martin Polhill that led to Polhill spinning. As the field scrambled to avoid Polhill, Paul Gaboury ended up on the dirt mound in 3 and 4 while Ken Winfield flipped over after trying to take evasive actions. After the red flag lifted, Bicknell held the lead for a few laps, while Gary Lindberg, who started fourth, chased down the lead. On lap nine, Lindberg made the pass for the lead and never looked back. Even while fighting lap traffic, Lindberg continued to stretch out the lead. He eventually lapped all but nine cars on the extended green flag run to the finish. Bicknell finished third with Brad Rouse finishing third.
After writing off his race car in a wreck last Saturday night, Cody McPherson was back to contend for another win. Polesitter Noah Mamo led the opening portion of the race, while McPherson, who started ninth, found his way to sixth by lap four. On the race’s eighth lap, Tyler Lafantasie brought out the caution when his car lost power entering turn one and he was unable to limp it back to the pits. Two laps later, Jeff Panunte spun previous week’s feature winner Curtis Friesen for the race's final caution. When green flag racing resumed, McPherson got by Jacob Chevalier for second at the race's halfway mark. On lap 17, he took the lead from Mamo on the way to what would be McPherson’s ninth feature win of the season. Mamo was second with Chevalier, Ryan Barrett and Tyler Puchalski rounding out the top five.
Tyler Winger entered Saturday’s feature as the points leader in the track championship chase, and thanks to the timed hot lap/redraw format, had the opportunity to start from pole. Winger would lead early, while the always fast Joe Isabell, moved to third by lap four, with defending track champion Josh Sliter in fourth. On lap eight, the race's only caution came out for contact between Dillan Sliter and Cohen Corbett. Isabell went to second on the restart, however anytime he closed in on leader Winger, he would lose the handle on his car and drop back a car length or two. Combined with Winger’s smooth line around the bottom, made it virtually impossible for Isabell to get around, and he ultimately had to settle for second. Brent Begolo passed Josh Sliter on the final lap for the final spot on the podium.
The Hoosier Stocks ran their feature without incident, and pole sitter Gofast Teeple used the green flag laps to pace the field comfortably until the heavy hitters in the series began to close. At lap eight, Kyle Pelrine was putting the pressure on Teeple while Dave Bailey got by Rob Murray to take the third spot. By lap 13, Teeple was doing all he could to hold off Pelrine, including slamming the door on him in turn one, which resulted in minor contact and Pelrine having to lift. Once he lifted, Bailey was able to get to his outside, while Teeple got tight in turns three and four and couldn’t hold his line. This allowed Bailey to shoot up the middle passing both Teeple and Pelrine to take the top and win for the ninth time at Merrittville Speedway.
In All Star Concrete action, while drivers tangled in the midfield, fans were treated to a duel between frontrunners Rob Goulding who led early, and Cierra Keus who had to fight her way up to the front out of the midpack. After early cautions on lap three and four, Keus was able to take over the top spot at lap seven, but it was short lived as Goulding regained the top spot again before another caution at lap 11 when Randy Always stopped on track. Prior to the yellow, Jeremy Cooper made multiple attempts to take out Alex Riley in response to an incident from the night prior at Ohsweken. This led to a jam up in the field that damaged several cars and ended Cooper’s night early. On the single file restart, Goulding held the inside while Keus challenged and they raced side by side for multiple laps, making door to door contact before Goulding eventually prevailed, clearing Keus on the final lap.
All Canadian Tribute Weekend rolls on as Flat Track Canada brings dirt Motorcycle racing to Merrittville Speedway on Sunday night. The second night of stock car racing sees Baron Roofing present the 4th Annual Canadian Grand Nationals on Monday August 4th. The Commercial Auto Electric 358 Modifieds will contest a 44 lap feature in honor of Stewart Friesen, and one lucky fan will win $1000. Pit Gates will open at 5pm, with grandstands opening at 5:30pm, and racing will get underway at 7pm.
