Racing For the Dogs and With the Dogs This Saturday at Merrittville Speedway
THOROLD, ONTARIO (May 21, 2024) … This coming Saturday night is going to the dogs at Merrittville Speedway as Pet Valu and the Niagara Ice Dogs will present Dog Days of Summer Night. The night will be highlighted by the second home race as part of the Duel on the Dirt for the Vansickle Pet Valu/PV On the Lane 4 Cylinders plus the Best Appearing Dog Contest.
The May 25th racing program at Merrittville will also feature double feature for the Baron Roofing/Semenuk's Esso DIRTcar Sportsman due to the May 18th program being fogged out. The Commercial Auto Electric 358 Modifieds, Baron Roofing/Semenuk’s Esso DIRTcar Sportsman, Rona Doidge Modified Lites, and Vansickle PetValu/PV on the Lane 4 Cylinders features from this past Saturday are being discussed with management at the time of this release. The Hoosier Stocks will also be on the card for May 25.

Playing their home games at the state-of-the-art Meridian Centre, the Niagara Ice Dogs have been playing in the Ontario Hockey League since their inaugural season back in 1998 as the Mississauga Ice Dogs. They moved to St. Catharines in time for the 2007-2008 season. In their history, the Dogs have had six players to become first-round draft picks of the NHL, including Alex Piertangelo in 2008, Mark Visentin in 2010, Ryan Strome and Dougie Hamilton in 2011, Brendan Perlini in 2014 and most recently, Philip Tomasino in 2019. Josh Ho-Sang, Jason Robertson, and Akil Thomas, and Carter Verhaeghe are some Niagara vets now playing “in the show”.
