MAT WILLIAMSON, CODY MCPHERSON, DAVE BAILEY, JOSH SLITER, AND TYLER LAFANTAISIE KEEP ON TRUCKIN’ TO MERRITTVILLE SPEEDWAY WINS

THOROLD, ONTARIO (July 9th, 2022) … Quality racing and victory lane regulars highlight Transport Sales and Service night at Merrittville Speedway with a full card of Bobcat of Hamilton Weekly Racing. Mat Williamson of Ridgeway, On. captured the win in the Corr/Pak Merchandising 358 Modifieds. The Right Choice Auto & Leisure Sportsman win went to Cody McPherson of St. Catharines, On. Hagersville, On. native Dave Bailey scored another victory in the Hoosier Stocks. Josh Sliter from Port Colborne, On. Got the win in Rona Doidge Mod Lites action and Thorold, On. racer Tyler Lafantaisie visited Pleasentview Victory Lane again in the Vansickle Pet Valu/PV on the Lane 4 Cylinders.
The Corr/Pak Merchandising 358 Modified Feature began with Luke Carleton and Boyd MacTavish on the front row, with Fred Carleton taking over second quickly. The caution flew when Pete Bicknell and Dave Flannigan got hooked together in turn one, both drivers would be able to continue. On the restart, Fred Carleton took off the lead and paced in incredible 4 car battle that also included Ryan Susice, Gary Lindberg, and Mat Williamson. The other drivers ran three wide and jostled for position behind Carleton for several laps with Williamson eventually emerging from the battle to challenge for the lead. Williamson showed flexibility in his car, taking it wherever he needed to pass Carleton and negotiate lap traffic. Ryan Susice appeared to be catching Williamson inside 10 laps to go. However, a caution with four laps to go set up and single car restart, and Williamson would hold off Susice to score his sixth win at Merrittville speedway. Susice was second, Lindberg third, Pete Bicknell rallied to fourth and Fred Carleton was fifth.
Jason VanMil and Curtis Friesen made up the front row for the Right Choice Auto & Leisure DIRT car Sportsman, with Friesen using the outside line to take an early lead. Friesen was strong throughout the race, holding off charges from Justin Sharp and Cody McPherson. However, Friesen would slip up on the outside and open the door for McPherson and Sharp to slip by. Sharp pressured McPherson for the remainder of the race but could not challenge for the lead. McPherson scored win number four on the year, with Sharp second, James Friesen third, Jay Mallory fourth, and Trevor Wright fifth.
Hoosier Stock action saw incredibly hard but clean racing in a caution free feature. John Couture and Gofast Teeple started out front, but the action was in the mid-field early, where Dave Bailey found himself in the middle of a four wide battle that caused some cosmetic damage. Meanwhile, Jason Fontaine made quick work of the front row to come away with the lead, but Bailey and Rob Murray were on him shortly after. Bailey was able to get by in the second half of the race and drive away while Fontaine and Murray battled for second. Bailey led the last third of the race to visit Pleasentview Victory Lane again. Fontaine got second from Murray with Zach Bleich and Kyle Pelrine rounding out the top five.
The Rona Doidge Modified Lites also raced clean and green through the entire race. It was a night of redemption for outside pole sitter Josh Sliter. Sliter spun twice the previous race, including once from the lead. On this night, Sliter built a huge lead early, but had to battle gear issues in the last half of the race as dominant Mod Lite drivers Brent Begolo and Tyler Winger closed in the final laps. Brent Begolo was able to pull alongside Sliter out of the final corner but couldn’t complete the pass before hitting the Tim Horton’s Finish Line and Sliter came away with the win. Winger ended up third, Sean Iftody fourth and R.J. Pietz completed the top five.
After taking a week off and having the 96-car visit victory lane without him, Tyler Lafantaisie once again won in Vansickle Pet Valu/PV on the Lane action. Randy Alway and Richard Hadler started as the front row, however a flat tire hampered Always who was running competitively. Clinton Barrick led early, but also suffered a flat tire and had to pit from the lead. Jay Moulton controlled much of the race, but a caution came out that set up a green-white-checkered finish. On the restart, Lafantaisie was able to get by Moulton and score win number seven on the year. Moulton brought it home second, while Ken Hair finished third, Vincent Pagnotta fourth and John Lubeck fifth.
Bobcat of Hamilton Weekly Racing returns July 16th as Merrittville Speedway welcomes the Action Sprint Tour on Peters Construction Group night. The night will be capped off by the School Bus Racing series. Also in action are the Right Choice Auto & Leisure DIRTcar Sportsman, the Hoosier Stocks who will contest the St. Catharines Husky Duel on the Dirt event #2, Vansickle Pet Valu/PV on the Lane 4 Cylinders and V6’s. Pit gates will open at 5:00 pm, grandstands open at 5:30, and racing will begin at 7:00 pm.
