Harvey Hainer Jr’s interest started early in life watching the races at  Merrittville Speedway, while his father Harvey Sr. crew chiefed cars for Lloyd Holt and later Mike Zajac.

In 1975, Harvey Jr. decided to try his hand at driving a late model, 1966 Chevelle owned by Mark Elliot.  He numbered his first race car after his uncle Lloyd Holt’s #15.  With one year under his belt late model, he moved into modifieds, racing a former Davey Moore Gremlin and numbered it 2H. (The two Harveys and two Hainers)

With veteran crew chief Harvey Sr., the 2H’s made their presence known on the area dirt ovals, calling Merrittville Speedway their Saturday Night home.

For 1981, the Hainers purchased Alan Johnson’s Troyer Mudbus and by season’s end would be crowned Merrittville Speedway’s modified champion.  The 2H was always recognized as a contender on the D.I.R.T. circuit, and raced at all area dirt ovals, with ventures to Fonda, Rolling Wheels, Five Mile Point and Syracuse.

At one point, “The Part Mart Special” racing team had two race cars in their stable.  From the 1980’s through the 1990’s the two Harveys would continue to be top      contenders at Merrittville, but 1997 would be his last.  Having sold the racing team and equipment to Dan Miller, Harvey Sr. would help Dan Miller with race car set up and preparation, during his rookie season.  Harvey Jr. would go onto manage the family business, Hainer’s Discount Tire and Battery in St.Catharines, where he remains    today.

Tonight it is with pleasure that the Merrittville Speedway Reunion Committee,      inducts the “Electrifying” Harvey Hainer 2H on to the Merrittville Speedway Wall of Fame.  This becomes the first father-son inductions, with Harvey Sr. having been inducted a few seasons ago, as well as brother-in-law Davey Moore.

It is only fitting since the 2 Harvey’s have left their championship mark on  Merrittville Speedway.
