Thorold, Ontario (May 1) - Jesse Johnston earned his first Ed MacPherson Construction Junior 2 Feature while Matthew Farnham also won for the first time in the KC Auto Parts & Superior PetroFuels Junior Restricted Heavy Division as Merrittville Speedway opened its 2007 Kart Season.

Johnston’s win came early however as Starter Steve Sim waved the checkered flag at lap 11 of the 15 lap event after off and on drizzle throughout the cool night turned into a short downpour. It was the final Checkered Flag of the night as the Philbrick Farm & Garden Equipment Senior Feature never made it to the track.

In other Original Pizza Logs Feature action, Jacob Lutz was also an Opening Night Feature Winner taking top spot in the RCM Racing Equipment Cassell Manufacturing Junior 1 Division.

The Drummond Home Hardware Garden City Auto Complex Novice Division was a real surprise as a record turn-out on opening night saw 17 young racers compete in their heats. Jesse Cassell, Travis Miller, James Stolzenberg and Tristan Jeffrey won their respective heats. The Novice Division will continue to compete in heats until Merrittville officials deem they are ready for Feature Events.

Kart Racing continues Tuesday May 8. Gates open at 5:00 with racing beginning at 7:00. Grandstand admission is free.
