Thorold, Ontario … Performance Manufacturing and Slack Performance Karts presented the 2nd Annual Burris Tire 50 Twenty Five at Merrittville Speedway July 3rd and when the 50 lap Event for the Philbrick Farm & Garden Equipment Senior Medium Division took the checkered flag – Fonthill native Blake Priestley bested the 24 kart starting field. 

One of the largest RCM Racing Equipment Junior 1 Division fields saw Ben Werth top the 18 kart starting field. 

In Ed MacPherson Construction Junior 2 action – Matthew Farnham came home the winner of the 25 lap event while Collin Smith earned his first KC Auto Parts Superior PetroFuels Junior Restricted Heavy Feature in winning his 25 lap event. 

The Drummond Home Hardware Novice Division ran their first feature event of the season with Matthew Veihdeffer winning the 20 lap special event. 

The Senior Medium Division once again qualified through a combination of time trials and heats and Bobby D’Ambrosio set the fastest time with Blake Priestley, Andy Short, Adam Hilton and Jamie Wheeler the fastest karters. 

At the drop of the green for the 50 lap event, pole sitter D’Ambrosio set the pace until Kevin Root took control on lap 18. Root led the stellar field to the mandatory fuel stop at the halfway point. On the restart it was Root out front until Blake Priestley became the new leader on lap 31. 

Through to the finish, Priestley drove his Action Appraisals # 66 to his first win of the season – earning the veteran $500 of the almost $1500 Main Event Purse. Sophomore Senior Medium driver Nick Herriven made a late race charge to take to take the runner-up spot in his Performance Manufacturing Slack #20 Kart. Current point leader Ron Spatorico took third in his Jeffrey Machine # 1 while Bryan Boyle and Jay Bean rounded out the top 5. 

Ryan Lucas won the 15 lap Consolation followed by Larry Stolzenberg, Joe Priestley, Danielle Culverwell and all four transferred to the main event. 

Ben Werth set the pace at the start of the 25 lap Junior 1 feature before Mitchell Tallman took control on lap 7. Werth who leads the Tuesday Night point standings was quick to regain the lead though – taking back top spot by lap 10.  

Through to the finish it was Werth out front in his Performance Manufacturing Slack #11 with Tallman settling for runner-up spot in his Philbrick Farm & Garden # 8. Haley Oakes and James Moll made good in their first 2006 visits in taking third and fourth spots with Braeden Bilinsky rounding out the top five. 

The night’s only red flag occurred when Jake Lutz flipped his kart but the 2006 multi-feature winner restarted the event to finish ninth. 

Colin Spatorico was first to lead the 25 lap Ed MacPherson Construction Junior 2 Feature before Matthew Farnham took control on lap 5. In the remaining 20 laps, Farnham was able to open a comfortable lead on the field to the checkered flag. Farnham and Spatorico were followed by Mitchell Brown, Timmy Kott and Matthew Barker. 

The Junior Restricted Heavy 25 lap Feature saw Cori Webber out front before Collin Smith took control on lap 9. Webber regained the lead briefly on lap 21 but on lap 23, Smith found an advantage and regained the lead and held top spot through to the finish for his first win of the season. 

Corey Bodman, Jacob Stefanski and Brandon Brown followed Smith and Webber. 

In the first Novice Feature of the season, Matthew Veihdeffer started on the pole and never looked back in leading all 20 laps of the special event. Brad Webber took the runner-up spot in his first visit while second generation driver Jesse Cassell took third spot. Fourth and fifth spots also went to second generation drivers Brennon Tries and Noah Ferri. 

Burris Tires provided Priestley, Werth, Farnham and Smith $25 Contingency Awards for their Feature Wins.
