THOROLD, ONT (March 19, 2019)… Twisted Metal Racing (TMR) will be presenting the 2019 Triple Crown for the Mini Stocks at Merrittville Speedway.

“Our team has always been successful in the Triple Crown and has had a lot of fun so it just made sense we give back to a great division and help it grow”, comments TMR Racing’s Kyle Rothwell. TMR Racing has three Triple Crown Championships on their resume with Tyler Lafantaisie winning in 2013, Rothwell in 2016, and most recently Alex Riley in 2018. “It means a lot to the team as Tyler, Alex, and myself are all Triple Crown champions”, Rothwell said.

Just like in 2018, the 2019 TMR Racing Triple Crown will also coincide with the Insta Panels Duel on the Dirt home races and combined race for the Mini Stocks. The first two races and home races for the Duel on the Dirt will be on Saturday, May 11, and Saturday, June 8. The combined race and championship race of the Triple Crown will be on Monday, August 5 paying $1,000 to win. The Civic Holiday event will also feature the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series and BEI Lightning Series for Sportsman plus the John Michaels pre-race Chicken BBQ.

“I’m sure car counts will be great. We have a great bunch of drivers with some of the best and closest racing of the night with three and four wide finishes at times”, Rothwell explained.

TMR was started in 2011 when Kyle competed in the Enduros at tracks across the region. In 2012, Rothwell moved up to the Pure Stocks and won the Humberstone track championship. In 2013, the TMR team moved up to the Mini Stocks as Rothwell drove for Trevor Clark. 2019 will see Rothwell back behind the wheel of the TMR 114 with a car owned by wife Lisa for daughter Hana, a graduate of the Tuesday night go-kart program at Merrittville. “I’m currently building a brand new VW for the 2020 season, making TMR a three-car operation”, Rothwell said. “Although we maybe a multi-car team, we all help each other get to the front each week and it is what makes us successful along with our great sponsors”. The 2019 TMR 114 is sponsored by Pet Valu, BJ’s Variety & Submarines, Luisa Suite Retreat, and Aube Designs.

“I’m hoping to shake some of last year’s gremlins and add another Triple Crown trophy to the cabinet in 2019”. “I hope that our team can help the class grow and get the attention and big money paying races that all drivers in the region deserve. All these teams’ puts in the same amount of work and time into their racecars as the headlining classes”, Rothwell said. “It is so awesome that we have a few races this year paying $1,000 to win, which is a huge amount for these small-budget teams. It is like winning the Daytona 500.”

Rothwell knows what it’s like to win a $1,000 to win event as he won the inaugural $1,000 to win night at New Humberstone two seasons ago.

Rothwell and the rest of the competitive Mini Stock class will be at Test and Tune on April 13, before racing for the first time on Saturday, April 20 as part of the Spring Sizzler. The complete Merrittville schedule is available online at
