St. Catharines, ONT…Five
BRP CanAm Series weekly events have produced three
winners and all three are preparing for the 2008
Series tour opener at Merrittville Speedway on
Saturday May 17.
Jeremy Wonderling is
undefeated after three weekly late model events at
Black Rock Speedway. Glenn Whritenour and Wayne
Robertson have split the two late model mains
completed at Woodhull Raceway. These three and about
thirty others will be headed across the Peace Bridge
on Saturday on their way to the Merrittville Speedway
in Thorold, Ontario for the start of the 14 event 2008
BRP CanAm Series tour event schedule.
“Weekly racing is one
thing, but the tour deal is something else! We have
been fast everywhere this year. I should be five for
five, but I couldn’t quite get Glenn (Whritenour) in
the first race at Woodhull. I made a major mistake at
Woodhull in the Dennison race or I might have won that
one. Would have / could have / should have, but that
is racing. We have been lucky at Black Rock. I hope
that luck continues at Merrittville. I can really use
that $1600 (winner’s share) with a new baby and all.
Abby and Carson came home today making it a very
special Mother’s Day,” says Wonderling.
“I must thank Junior
Green for loaning me his motor for the first two wins
at Black Rock and the first race at Woodhull. He
could have been racing, but he knows how much these
home track points mean to me. He is taking a more
relaxed approach this year. We are working to get him
motivated to make the trip to Merrittville. His car
has been ready and now he even has his motor back!
Another guy who has jumped in to help out this year is
Terry Prince. Terry is a long time friend from here
in Scio. We have his name (Terry Prince Contracting)
on the car this year. Terry has provided a brand new
truck to get us to the track. Root’s Water Systems
and Baldwin Forest Products continue as long time
sponsors. Of course, Wonderling Logging pays some of
the racing bills and now diapers!”
Wonderling best
Merrittville BRP CanAm finish is third in 2005. He
owns four career Series wins including the 2004 Brock
Young Memorial at McKean County and the $2500 ISKY
Racing Cams season finale at Black Rock last October.
Neither Glenn
Whritenour nor Wayne Robertson has ever even seen
Merrittville Speedway. Both are experts on the high
banks of Woodhull and great race car drivers that will
really enjoy the big wide racing surface of
Merrittville Speedway. Whritenour is the 2006
Woodhull late model champion and Robertson the 2007
Woodhull champion. Whritenour won the September 2007
BRP CanAm Series tour event at Woodhull.
Vern Wasson, owner /
promoter of Woodhull Raceway, took the late models off
his May 17th agenda too allow his weekly competitors
to race at Merrittville. McKean County Raceway will
be dark on Saturday night to allow those weekly racers
to make the trip to Merrittville.
Merrittville
Speedway gates will open at 5:00 on Saturday with
racing at 7:00. Speedway information at
