Thorold, Ontario (April 25) – In a little more than18 hours and counting down, Brad Rouse will be hoping to continue his early season success in the Sportsman 40 lap portion of the Baron Roofing Windows and Doors Spring Sizzler 100 at Merrittville Speedway – Saturday April 26th.

In last week’s Test, Tune and Time Trial Night – Rouse earned the Pole by setting fast time – but that starting spot does not become available to him until Saturday May 3rd’s Global Warranty Corporation presentation of the first full 5 Division Dirt Weekly Racing Series Event of the 2008 Season.

“I owe it all to my crew,” revealed Brad Rouse on the eve of his 16th Racing Season, “early in the practice we developed some carburetor problems … but they worked on it and got it sorted out before time trials.

Rouse ran a 16.690 second lap in his Baron Roofing & Siding MR18 – but that was not his first time on the track this season.

For the first time in his racing career, Rouse took the Bicknell Racing Products Chassis Seminar and Pete Bicknell Driving School.

“We’re still learning something every time out,” relates Rouse, “getting the early season seat time was good … and we picked up a lot through-out the day.”

Like so many others, Brad came to Stock Cars from a Kart Racing background. In fact it was through his kart friends that he got his Big Track start – having purchased a former Bill Willard Car to move right into the Sportsman Division.

Bill’s Grandfather Bill Willard Senior had helped Brad  in the early days as well.

Prior to making the jump – Brad had crewed for Trevor Wilkens.

Many may have seen Brad’s Race Car on display during the Race Car Show at the Pen Centre last month.

The 2003 Bicknell Chassis – lettered by Platinum Grafx carries sponsorship from Nu-Craft Window and Door Company – his long-time friends Jay and Fred, Bella RV Rentals, JCS Motorsports and Regional Haulage in addition to Baron Roofing & Siding.

That’s the predominantly grey one.

If you may have noticed a Black One – Stan Zanchin is expected to join the Original Pizza Logs Sportsman Division once a GM Crate Engine is installed.

“I’m so fortunate,” said Rouse, “I can’t thank my wife Amanda and our daughter Madyson enough … we put a lot of hard work into the cars this winter … a lot of time away from them.”

The we is his crew – Dave Osborne, Kenny Huffman and Justin.

Last season, Brad joined fellow Sportsman driver Mat Williamson in raising awareness for the Rankin Cancer Run. He not only raised that – he raised a $1,000 by donating half of his May winnings plus proceeds from T Shirt Sales.

Hook up with Brad in the Pits tomorrow night or any Saturday Night in May and get a T Shirt yourself to support the third edition of this important event set for May 24th.

Rouse will no doubt be in the spotlight again when Merrittville hosts the Rankin Cancer Run Committee on May 17th during the Meridian Credit Union Night.

Your local Dirt Track is where it’s at and it’s at Merrittville Speedway – tomorrow – Saturday April 26th.

The star studded 358 Modified Super DIRTcar Series Stars are set to challenge our home town heroes in the Spring Sizzler 100 Super DIRTcar Series presented by Baron Roofing Windows and Doors.

April’s Event also includes a 40 lap event for the Sportsman and a 25 lap Street Stock Open Event

All of these Special Events puts Merrittville Speedway on the map as must see events and it’s just the start of 2008 – you won’t want to miss a single event all season!
