Release - Friday March 28, 2008 - From Jim Irvine -

– Winter Office
Thorold, Ontario
(March 28) – It’s 29 days and counting down to
Merrittville Speedway’s 57th Season and the Baron
Roofing Windows and Doors Spring Sizzler – Saturday
April 26th.
With what the Thorold
track’s race fans and race teams woke up to this
morning – is Winter ever going to leave?
Do the people that
make the weather know that April Fool’s Day is not
until Tuesday?
Enough of the snow
already – the first day of summer is 84 days away but
still – but it’s high time for spring!
“This time of year –
the weather can do anything,” storms (Merrittville
Speedway GM) Erica Bicknell, “it’s still early enough
that we are still in good shape though – everything
will just have to come together a little quicker.”
Several of
Merrittville Speedway’s Lucas Oil Open Wheel Lite
Drivers started their 2008 Seasons at the East Bay
Raceway in Tampa Florida at the TUSA Bilstein Mr. Dirt
Winternationals after the Alltel DIRTcar Winter
Nationals concluded at Volusia Speedway Park for the
Big Block Modifieds that will visit Merrittville –
Monday August 4th.
For most of them – it
was a start that they would like to have back.
“Last season,”
remembers 2007 Lucas Oil Open Wheel Lite Champion Paul
Klager, “I could’ve got mixed up in a 5 car pile-up
and would’ve been able to drive away without a scratch
after everyone else got towed away.”
What can you say about
the new father’s break-out 2007 year … 11 Merrittville
wins and throw in another mid-season triumph at the
Rolling Wheels Raceway in his first ever trip to the
Elbridge NY track.
Since the Florida
fiasco, Klager’s KRT Motorsports Crew has completely
gone over the car and it is ready to be displayed at
the Pen Centre Race Car Show starting Monday March
31st.
From the Pen Centre –
it will hopefully be back to the track for the 5
Division Test, Tune and Time Trial Night – Saturday
April 19th.
The fastest two cars
in each Dirt Weekly Racing Series Division will be
locked into the front row for the first point night
when Merrittville Speedway welcomes Global Warranty
Corporation – May 3rd.
Merrittville
Speedway’s Baron Roofing Windows and Doors Spring
Sizzler 100 will feature extra distance events for 3
divisions as the L. St. Amand Enterprises 358
Modifieds will be put to the test right away against
the DIRTcar Stars in a 100 lap Super DIRTcar Series
Event.
The Original Pizza
Logs Sportsman and Hoosier Stocks will share the
spotlight in 40 and 25 lap special events
respectively.
Race fans may notice a
new event on the 2008 Schedule – actually 2 - in the
Modified Lite Championship Tour North.
It’s an all new series
involving the New York Dwarf Car Association’s
Saturday Night Home Track of Merrittville – May 10th
and August 4th in addition to two visits to
Humberstone Speedway – June 15th and July 13th and a
pair of Ohsweken Speedway dates – May 30th and August
22nd.
Drivers wishing to
compete in the Modified Lite Stars Championship Tour
North Series are reminded that the first deadline to
register is Tuesday April 1st.
So it all leads to one
question – when will the 2008 Racing Season resume for
those who had it start about one month ago?
It can’t start soon
enough!
Your
local Dirt Track is where it’s at and it’s at
Merrittville Speedway in just 29 Days – Saturday April
26th.
The
star studded 358 Modified Super DIRTcar Series Stars
are set to challenge our home town heroes in the
Spring Sizzler 100 Super DIRTcar Series presented by
Baron Roofing Windows and Doors.
April’s Event also includes a 40 lap event for the
Sportsman and a 25 lap Street Stock Open Event.
With
the first Modified Lite Stars Championship Tour North
shortly after that – will we see any visitors looking
to get some experience for the J&S Heating Rose Webber
Memorial that brings the best to Thorold from all over
the US?
All
of these Special Events puts Merrittville Speedway on
the map as must see events and it’s just the start of
2008 – you won’t want to miss a single event all
season!
