Release - Thursday March 27, 2008 - From Jim Irvine -

Thorold, Ontario
(March 26) – It’s 30 days and counting down to
Merrittville Speedway’s 57th Season and the Baron
Roofing Windows and Doors Spring Sizzler – Saturday
April 26th.
The Thorold track’s
Hoosier Stock Division is also 3 and 0 in a fiercely
fought battle in the annual Duel on the Dirt Series
against the Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks that call
the Brighton Speedway home.
Will anyone challenge
our hometown heroes in 2008?
That question could be
answered Saturday April 26th when in addition to the
358 Modified 100 lap Super DIRTcar Series Main event
and the 40 lap Sportsman special – the date also
includes a 25 lap Street Stock Open.
“Basically any 2008
Street Stock-type car is eligible for this event,”
reveals (Merrittville GM) Erica Bicknell, “just show
up with your current rule book … there won’t be any
mixing or matching either … your rules must be
followed to a Tee!”
Once again in 2008,
drivers at each track will have two home track events
before the two combined events in September.
Merrittville’s Hoosier
Stock race fans and race teams will notice a Duel on
the Dirt Event listed as part of the David Chevrolet
Corvette presentation of the Patriot Sprint Group on
May 31st on the 2008 Schedule Cards.
Please note that date is
not a home track event – the two 2008 events are set
for Monday May 19th when the Financial Care Group
presents the Monday Night Madness Special Event in
addition to Monday August 4th when Toolneeds presents
the Trevor Wilkens Memorial that also features the
Advance Auto Parts Big Block Super DIRTcar Series 100
lap Main Event.
Merrittville’s 57th
Season will once again conclude with the J&S Heating
Weekend that boasts two 50 lap events – the Duel on
the Dirt Finale presented by Lawns We Do and D.L.
Services on Friday September 5th.
The season will end how
it started off – Saturday September 6th with another
Street Stock Open – 50 laps the distance with a $1000
payday for the winner.
So – will the Brighton
Automotive Pro Stocks make an early season trek across
the 401 looking for some seat time in Southern Ontario
rather than the first of three practices at their
Saturday Night home?
Being only April – what
drivers from the Southern Ontario and Western New York
Dirt Tracks will pay an early season visit before
their home tracks open?
How about Asphalt drivers
– are there any that might like to do it in the dirt?
You know the old saying –
Dirt’s for racing – asphalt’s for getting there!
“My Hoosier Stocks are
always ready to step up to the plate,” pitches
Merrittville Speedway’s Nancy Bicknell, “it’s a whole
new game this year and we can expect another awesome
Duel on the Dirt from the Brighton Automotive Pro
Stocks or anyone else.”
“You know what they say,”
predicts Brighton Speedway’s Mark Rinaldi, “three
strikes and you’re out … our hats off once again to
Merrittville … my Pro Stocks have come so far … and
they can’t wait to take to the field this year!”
Race fans looking for
some pre-season rivalries can look to the ice as the
Thorold ASI Group Blackhawks and the St. Catharines
Mountainview Homes Falcons are locked into the GHL
Championship Play-offs with Game 2 set for the Jack
Gatecliffe Arena in St. Catharines Friday March 28th
at 7:30. Game 3 goes Saturday at the Thorold Arena at
7:30 as well.
After Saturday’s Junior B
Game – you can catch more on ice action at the
Merritton Arena in St. Catharines with the annual
Stanley’s Cup Tournament involving racers, crews and
fans.
Your local Dirt Track
is where it’s at and it’s at Merrittville Speedway in
just 30 Days – Saturday April 26th.
The star studded 358
Modified Super DIRTcar Series Stars are set to
challenge our home town heroes in the Spring Sizzler
100 Super DIRTcar Series presented by Baron Roofing
Windows and Doors.
April’s Event also
includes a 40 lap event for the Sportsman and a 25 lap
Street Stock Open Event.
With plenty of free
camping – it puts Merrittville Speedway on the map as
a must see event and it’s just the start of 2008 – you
won’t want to miss a single event all season!
