Thorold, Ontario (March
24) – It just seems like we celebrated the first ever
Family Day in Canada last month.
And how quickly Easter
has come!
That only means that
the Countdown to Green and Merrittville’s 57th
consecutive season has reached 34 days.
Although we take a
little bit of a break today as we enjoy probably our
last Sunday off til October in addition to what the
Easter Bunny brought!
One week ago today –
Sunday March 16th, Merrittville Speedway Original
Pizza Logs Sportsmen Young Gun Mat Williamson
celebrated his 18th Birthday. A Belated Happy Birthday
Mat!
We also recently also
learned that one of Williamson’s crew members – Ted
Renshaw – will be inducted into the Fort Erie Sports
Wall of Fame in June in a ceremony at the Fort Erie
Leisureplex.
Renshaw is a member of
the L. St. Amand Enterprises Merrittville Speedway
Wall of Fame in addition to the Reunion Committee and
in the days leading up to the 57th Reunion Night –
will find out more about this honor and what the group
has planned.
On the race track –
while the NASCAR Sprint Cup Drivers and teams are also
enjoying a rare day off – the Advance Auto Parts Big
Block Super DIRTcar Series was supposed to have opened
last night at the Hagerstown Speedway.
Race teams looking to
kick off the 2008 Edition that will visit Merrittville
Speedway – Monday August 4th – surely has a Good
Friday in learning of the event’s early cancellation
and not having to travel to Maryland.
Race fans however
looking for some Easter ‘Eggcitement’ either live at
the track or on the internet on dirtvision.com were
left with the NASCAR Nationwide Series Race and the F!
Grand Prix on TV to choose from.
Congratulations to
Scott Wimmer for winning the Pepsi 300 at the
Nashville Superspeedway and Kimi Raikkonen – the
reigning World Champion for his first of the season
and for Ferrari as well.
On the ice – the
Thorold ASI Group Blackhawks will face the St.
Catharines Mountainview Homes Falcons in the GHL
League Championship. The Battle of Burleigh Hill is
expected to start Tuesday Night in Thorold.
Racers will take to
the rink themselves next Saturday Night March 29th -
in the Annual Stanley’s Cup Tournament at the
Merritton Arena. For further information – visit
