30 DAYS TO TEST TUNE AND TIME AT MERRITTVILLE FOR ALMOST 30 MEMBER ROOKIE CLASS

For Release - Thursday March 20, 2008 - From Jim Irvine - Merrittville Speedway Public Relations - 905-685-7223 – Winter Office

Thorold, Ontario (March 20) – While Merrittville race fans are counting down the days until the 2008 Season – so too is an unbelievable rookie class.

Many of them will see their first race in just 36 days in the Baron Roofing Spring Sizzler 100 Saturday April 26th. But not before almost 30 Rookie Drivers and many veterans will see the Thorold track’s d-shaped oval for the firs time – Saturday April 19th.

“If the pace continues,” reveals (Merrittville GM) Erica Bicknell, “we’ll have to fill in the pond or something … to accommodate our race teams comfortably in the pit area.”

With the season a little more than a month away – 104 drivers have registered by purchasing their $75 Driver V.I.P. Passes – a special offer that expires as of Tuesday April 1.

“There is still some time left as we prepare to take over the Pen Centre in a few weeks and move back to track for the season,” adds Bicknell, “if you do the math and split it equally between the 5 divisions – that’s at least 20 in each class every night.”

Some of the new drivers are new to the sport while some are moving up the ranks from other divisions.

Merrittville Speedway’s web site visitors have already learned about drivers including Todd Kendrick, Travis Braun and Andrew Sittler as the count down to the start of the 57th Season continues. In the coming weeks, log back on daily to www.merrittvillespeedway.com to find out about other new faces 2008 will bring.

The trio of drivers along with Bill Bleich and Tommy Flannigan are all expected to join the ranks of the L. St. Amand Enterprises 358 Modified Division.

With the Sportsman Baron Roofing 40 lap event also on the schedule - Ryan Weese, Ron MacAuley, Jay Bain and Darrell Farraway will be among those trying to crack the starting lineup as well.

Rounding out the card will be a 25 lap Street Stock Open and who knows what that event will bring as any Street Stock is eligible provided they meet their home track rules.

Two years ago Devin Habiuk shouted ‘Gentlemen Start Your Engines’ as our first Big Block Grand Marshal. This season the Thorold Rookie will be on the receiving end of that command as will fellow first-timers Tyler Anderson, Brett Robins, Adam Gracey, Michael Bosse, Mark Fawcett, Jack Myers and Mike Miller.

While each driver that takes time on the 19th will have to wait until May 3rd’s Global Warranty Corporation first 5 division Dirt Weekly Racing Series Event to use their results to line up their heat – it will actually be the first event of the season for both the Lucas Oil Open Wheel Lites and the Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinders.

Justin Gaudreault, Dale Leonard, Jason Corless and Joel Szigatti are expected to be making their first starts in the Lucas Oil Open Wheel Lites while Chris Laskey, AJ Castelein, Matt Deschamps, 47X Kyle Pelrine and 95 Roger Gilbert will do the same in the Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinders.

Race fans can look for an updated 2008 Dirt Weekly Racing Series Driver Roster at www.merrittvillespeedway.com in the very near future as the last of the registrations are turned in by drivers.

Your local Dirt Track is where it’s at and it’s at Merrittville Speedway in just 37 Days – Saturday April 26th.

The star studded 358 Modified Super DIRTcar Series Stars are set to challenge our home town heroes in the Spring Sizzler 100 Super DIRTcar Series presented by Baron Roofing.

April’s Event also includes a 40 lap event for the Sportsman and a 25 lap Street Stock Open Event.

With plenty of free camping – it puts Merrittville Speedway on the map as a must see event and it’s just the start of 2008 – you won’t want to miss a single event all season!
