48 DAYS TO MERRITTVILLE SPEEDWAY SPRING SIZZLER 100 – NO OFF SEASON REST FOR BICKNELL

This release was intended for release on Sunday March 9th, however the winter snow storm prevented us from coming into the office.  Our apologies.

For Release   - Sunday March 9, 2008 - From Jim Irvine - Merrittville Speedway Public Relations - 905-685-7223 – Winter Office

Thorold, Ontario (March 9) – While race fans get settled in today to watch the Kobalt Tools 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Race – defending Series Champion Jimmy Johnson and his Hendrick Motorsports Team-mates will be looking to get their 2008 Seasons on track.

Regardless of how the #48 does in the Atlanta Event – Southern Ontario and Western New York Race Fans and Teams alike can look forward to the start of Merrittville Speedway’s 57th Season which is now just 48 days away and counting down – to the Baron Roofing Spring Sizzler 100 – Saturday April 26th.

Since the close of last season, (Merrittville GM) Erica Bicknell has enjoyed a couple of ‘working’ holidays which began with the World of Outlaws World Finals at the Dirt Track at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte North Carolina.

For the first time is history – the World of Outlaws Sprint Car and Late Model Divisions would conclude their seasons at the same track and the historic Saturday Night finale was enjoyed by almost 14,000 spectators and race fans at home live on SPEED.

During the broadcast and in programs such as Dave Despain’s Wind Tunnel – we learned of the track prep heroics of Pete Bicknell and Howard Schram but there was no mention of Erica’s behind the scenes efforts at the facility or those of many others.

Fast forward three months later and Bicknell would work all 12 days of the Alltel DIRTcar Winter Nationals at the Volusia Speedway Park – one of many satellite events that make up Daytona Speedweeks in Florida.

“I’m really not one for relaxing on the beach,” revealed Bicknell, “even though it’s quite an ordeal … the networking opportunities are endless … talking with fellow promoters and industry professionals who flock to the events is invaluable it can only help what we try and accomplish at Merrittville.”

Bicknell’s VIP Credential duties have her also keeping touch with many drivers – letting them know what is planned for her 6th season in charge of the Thorold Show place – many of them will visit at least once during the 57th Season.

That roster of drivers also includes many NASCAR Drivers – that as a hobby away from their Sprint Cup, Nationwide or Truck ‘day’ jobs – are owners of race teams and in some case race their own cars when not at the super speedways.

“It’s like a who’s who of stars,” relays Bicknell, “at Volusia … it was nothing to have Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne, Carl Edwards, Kenny Schrader and Kenny Wallace and a host of others such as Ray Evernham, Richard Childress, Terry Labonte waiting in line to sign in … just like our hometown heroes every Saturday Night … they just want to race … it’s their living but it’s their hobby too.”

And she’s at it again.

While many of  you are on the couch watching Johnson’s #48 or you’re favorite NASCAR Driver in today’s race, Bicknell and her fellow promoters are at DIRTcar Headquarters in Weedsport NY for the Annual pre-season meeting.

One of the many tools she and her team of officials will bring back are the 2008 Schedule Cards that everyone is waiting for!

The Baron Roofing Spring Sizzler 100 is just 48 Days away.

Incidently, the snow that Atlanta got and we enjoyed ourselves over the weekend – cancelled the DIRTcar Promoter Meetings!

Your local Dirt Track is where it’s at and it’s at Merrittville Speedway in just 48 Days – Saturday April 26th.

The star studded 358 Modified Super DIRTcar Series Stars are set to challenge our home town heroes in the Spring Sizzler 100 Super DIRTcar Series presented by Baron Roofing.

April’s Event also includes a 40 lap event for the Sportsman and a 25 lap Street Stock Open Event.

Who will make the drive to Thorold April 26th - looking for some on track experience prior to the many special events planned for the 358’s, Sportsmen and Hoosier Stocks this season?

With plenty of free camping – it puts Merrittville Speedway on the map as a must see event and it’s just the start of 2008 – you won’t want to miss a single event all season!
