Jim Irvine - Merrittville Public Relations - 905-685-7223 (Winter Office)
Thorold, Ontario (Feb 29) … Speedweeks in
Florida has all been put to bed … the red Valentines Day decorations are being
replaced by the pastels of an early Easter and that only means one thing – the
2008 Season Opener at Merrittville Speedway is fast approaching.
So fast that the Thorold D-Shaped DIRTcar
sanctioned oval will open for the 57th Season in just 57 Days and the opening
event will set the tone for the entire season.
“57 straight seasons … what can we say,”
reveals (Merrittville GM) Erica Bicknell, adding, “long-time and newer fans
once again can look forward to exciting racing … right from the first green
flag in April through to final checkered in September.”
The tentative schedule is now on the
award-winning www.merrittvillespeedway.com – and right from the start – the 24
events further bolsters the tracks commitment to providing the best family
entertainment in Niagara.
“We might still have a few additions,” informs
co-owner Nancy Bicknell, “ but we’re excited and proud of whats to come … the
57th season will be highlighted by the return of many popular events – the most
notably being the Baron Roofing Spring Sizzler 100.”
The April 26th Spectacular will feature the L.
St. Amand Enterprises 358 Modified Division in a 100 lap Main Event which is
also the first event of the 2008 Advance Auto Parts 358 Modified Super DIRT
Series.
Filling out the ambitious race card are two
other special events – a 40 lap Original Pizza Logs Sportsman Feature in
addition to a 25 lap Street Stock Open.
Fan Favorite events making a return through-out
the season include a second 100 lap Super DIRTCar Series event featuring the
Big Block Modifieds presented by Toolneeds that begins with the Club
Castropignano Pasta Dinner, the David Chevrolet Summer Blast Off that will
showcase the Patriot Sprint Group, the second annual Lucas Oil Shoot Outs by
dirttrackdigest.com for both the L. St. Amand Enterprises 358 Modifieds and
Original Pizza Logs Sportsman Divisions, a visit by the increasingly popular
BRP 360 Late Models as well as a first time appearance of the Ontario Dirt Late
Models for full fendered race fans which is not to be overshadowed by several
Street Stock Specials including the Duel on the Dirt that will see
Merrittville’s own Hoosier Stocks attempt a four-peat against the Brighton
Automotive Pro Stocks from the Brighton Speedway.
NASCAR Craftsmen Truck Series fans will not
feel left out either as the Niagara Auto Sales Trucks will also make the trip
from their Humberstone Speedway home to challenge Merrittville’s oval on
several occasions.
Merrittville Speedway’s growing Open Wheel Lite
teams and fans can also look forward to an incredible season for the
Motorcycle-engined speedsters of the Lucas Oil sponsored division. Once again
the season will conclude with the J&S Heating Weekend that features the Rose
Webber Memorial that continues to draw top Mod Lite and Classic Dwarf Car teams
from all over North America to challenge Merrittville’s regulars. Two Mod Lite
Championship Tour North Events will provide in season specials as well.
The Tripleheader Weekend will once again
include a visit from the Sportsmen Super DIRTcar Series as part of the final
Saturday Night of the season.
The whole weekend and the whole season wraps up
with the Konzelmann Estate Winery 100 Lap Enduro Sunday September 7th after
three Enduro Qualifiers throughout the summer lead up to the Battle Royale and
what action race fans and participants saw again last season.
Enduro Racing at Merrittville allows anyone the
chance to experience all the thrills and excitement that is Dirt Track Racing.
The Menu at both the Grandstand and Pit
Concessions will also serve up the best food on Dirt from valued suppliers such
as Lococo Wholesale – the proof of that comes annually with the $1.00 Piller’s
Hot Dog Night.
Merrittville’s Motorsport Menu also dishes out
such favorites as a fabulous Firemaster Fireworks Display as Boltworks again
celebrates Canada Day, two helpings of Family Autograph Nights when Seaway Hose
& Hydraulics makes a return visit and again when Brian’s Tire Repair present
their first event - the annual Labor Day ‘FANtastic’ Point Finales. Side Dishes
that will surely fill your need for speed include the Best Appearing Dog
Contest and the Modern Truck Show and Shine that’s sure to make some noise.
