THREE SUPER DIRT SERIES SPECIALS AMONG 57TH SEASON HIGHLIGHTS AT MERRITTVILLE – PATRIOT SPRINT GROUP AND OTHERS JOINING 2008 SCHEDULE

THOROLD, Ontario (December 13) - With the recent announcement that Merrittville Speedway’s 57th consecutive season will open Saturday April 26th with a 100 lap 358 Modified Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series Event, race fans can also look forward to a number of other special events throughout the 2008 Season.

 

“Up until 2005,’ revealed (Merrittville GM) Erica Bicknell, “the 100 lap 358 Special highlighted the annual Trevor Wilkens Memorial … with that event now featuring the Big Blocks – we are thrilled to launch the new season with the return of an old favorite.”

 

Baron Roofing and Siding will raise the roof on the new season in presenting the 2nd Annual Spring Sizzler that will also feature a 40 lap Sportsman Special and the return of the 25 lap Street Stock Open Event introduced last season.

 

Since 1972, the Thorold showplace has hosted a Civic Holiday Classic which became known as the Trevor Wilkens Memorial. When Toolneeds presents the 2008 Edition Monday August 4th, the Advance Auto Parts Big Block Super DIRTcar Series will make it’s third straight visit much to the delight of Southern Ontario and Western New York race fans.

 

“Saturday Nights we have one of the most competitive fields of 358’s,” boasts Bicknell, adding, “with the two 100 lap Events – look for any number of our weekly competitors to make some headlines against the Series best.”

 

The Lucas Oil Shootout Series by dirttrackdigest.com will also make it’s third visit as well Saturday July 12th for the 50 lap Jerry Winger Memorial hosted by the Speedway’s Reunion Committee – marking another extra distance extra purse event for the premier L. St. Amand Enterprises sponsored division.

 

Modified Special Events will also include a 50 lap May 19th Main Event when the Financial Care Group presents Monday Night Madness. Rounding out the Holiday card and the first double-header will be a companion 50 lap Sportsmen Special, a 25 lap Duel on the Dirt Home Track Event for the Hoosier Stocks and the first of three Qualifiers for the season ending 100 lap Konzelmann Estate Winery Enduro.

 

The final 358 Modified Special will close the points when the Garden City Auto Complex and Bryan Fretz Financial join to co-host the Labor Day FANtastic 50 lap John Spencer Memorial that will also feature Autograph Night.

 

During the May doubleheader, local race fans can look forward to the only 2008 visit of the BRP 360 Late Models when they join the K&K Insurance kick-off event – Saturday May 17th.

 

Sprint Car fans will want to mark May 31st  on their list of must see events as well as the ASCS Patriot Sprint Group will headline the David Chevrolet Corvette late spring and only season visit of the winged wonders.

 

The Original Pizza Logs Sportsman Division are also part of the Super DIRT Scene in the coming season as their tour stop will visit Saturday September 6th as part of the J&S Heating Rose Webber Weekend  that closes the season with a tripleheader September 5. 6 and 7th that features the Lucas Oil Open Wheel Lite Division in a two day event.

 

Also on the two day card are the Hoosier Stocks as they look to put a choke hold on the Team and Individual titles for the 4th straight year as the Duel on the Dirt comes to a close once against the Brighton Speedway Pro Stocks

 

In its first two years, the Sportsman Lucas Oil Shootout Championship has been owned by Merrittville drivers Wayne Conn and Chad Chevalier. The third edition will be looking for a Saturday Night Star to shine once again when the Ontario Environmental Safety Network fires off a 50 lap Event Saturday June 21st.

 

When race fans and race teams alike are battling the crowds December 26th during all the Boxing Day Sales they can relax knowing that the long lines and traffic on the track in Merrittville Speedway’s 57th Season Opener is just 4 months away.
