FIRST TIME CHAMPIONS WERTH AND WEBBER AMONG HONOREES AT MERRITTVILLE KART BANQUET

 
Thorold, Ontario … Two first time champions were among the many honorees as the Merrittville Speedway Kart Club celebrated the 2006 Season November 12th at rural Thorold’s Club Castropignano. 

Ben Werth had a story book kart season at Merrittville as the 10 year old Gasport,NY driver not only won the overall Season Championship in the RCM Racing Equipment Original Pizza Logs Junior 1 Title – he also won the division’s Spring and Summer Series Titles among other awards. In doing so, Werth won Kart Club high 10 features en route to amassing 2,470 total points – another club high. 

Another first time champion also was Cori Webber who won her first KC Auto Parts Superior PetroFuels Junior Restricted Heavy Division Title. Webber – from Ransomville, NY won 5 feature wins throughout the season. 

One Ransomville, NY’s family domination continues as the Philbrick Farm & Garden Equipment Original Pizza Logs Senior Division saw Ron Spatorico continue his stranglehold on the division in earning his 8 th straight title. His younger nephew Colin Spatorico previous to the 2006 Season had earned three straight RCM Racing Equipment Original Pizza Logs Junior 1 Division Championships and as a rookie in the Ed MacPherson Original Pizza Logs Junior 2 Division – won the 2006 Point Championship. 

All of Merrittville Speedway’s 2006 Kart Point Champions received custom designed Champion Jackets from Hoosier Tire Canada in addition to the lion’s share of the more than $10,000 in cash point fund and prize awards. 2006 was the 13th season of Kart Racing at Merrittville Speedway. Second and third place finishers also received Burris Racing Helmet Bags. 

Merrittville Speedway’s youngest group of karters – the Drummond Home Hardware Garden City Auto Complex Novice Division received Competition Awards, as they do not run for points.  

Alex Riley. Brad Webber, Greg Kohut, Kyle Miller, Mackenzie St. Jean, Matthew Veihdeffer, Maizee Bodman, Travis Majuery, and Travis Miller – all Kart Club Members – were all presented special awards. 

Kart Body Kits donated to the Club by Original Pizza Logs were won via draws by Dylan Culp (Novice), Cole Hughes, (Junior 1), Teagan Andrews (Junior 2), Brandon Brown, (Junior Restricted Heavy) and David Janker (Senior Medium). 

A number of Specialty Awards were handed out and the winners are listed as follows

Feature Winner Awards – presented to the driver in each division with the highest number of feature wins

 RCM Racing Equipment Original Pizza Logs Junior 1 – Ben Werth – 10 wins

Ed MacPherson Construction Original Pizza Logs Junior 2 – Colin Spatorico– 6 wins

KC Auto Parts Superior PetroFuels Junior Restricted Heavy – Cori Webber – 5 wins

Philbrick Farm & Garden Equipment Original Pizza Logs Senior Medium – Ron Spatorico – 8 wins 

Rookies of the Year: Jake Lutz, (RCM Racing Equipment Original Pizza Logs Junior 1), Colin Spatorico, (Ed MacPherson Construction Original Pizza Logs Junior 2), Cori Webber,  (KC Auto Parts Superior PetroFuels Junior Restricted Heavy) and Aaron Barker, (Philbrick Farm & Garden Equipment Original Pizza Logs Senior Division). 

Most Improved Driver Awards were presented to Alex and John Riley, (Drummond Home Hardware Garden City Auto Complex Novice Division), Mitchell Tallman, (RCM Racing Equipment Original Pizza Logs Junior 1), Matthew Barker, (Ed MacPherson Construction Original Pizza Logs Junior 2), Corey Bodman, (KC Auto Parts Superior PetroFuels Junior Restricted Heavy), and Joey Mastroianni, (Philbrick Farm & Garden Equipment Original Pizza Logs Senior). 

RCM Racing Equipment also presented Sportsmanship Awards to a driver from each Kart division – Ben Werth, (RCM Racing Equipment Original Pizza Logs Junior 1), Matthew Farnham, (Ed MacPherson Construction Original Pizza Logs Junior 2), Cori Webber, (KC Auto Parts Superior PetroFuels Junior Restricted Heavy), and Jimmy Lutz, (Philbrick Farm & Garden Equipment Original Pizza Logs Senior) were the recipients. 

Wilder Racing Engines Hard Luck Awards were presented to karters that included Jake Lutz, (RCM Racing Equipment Original Pizza Logs Junior 1), Teagan Andrews, (Ed MacPherson Construction Original Pizza Logs Junior 2), Brandon Brown, (KC Auto Parts Superior PetroFuels Junior Restricted Heavy), and Heather Robins, (Philbrick Farm & Garden Equipment Original Pizza Logs Senior). 

Randy Barker was presented the Crew Chief of the Year Award for his efforts behind his two sons that were both runners-up in the Ed MacPherson Construction Junior 2 and Philbrick Farm & Garden Senior Medium Divisions – Matthew and Aaron Barker respectively.  

Former Karter and now Saturday Night Mod Lite Driver Paul Klager was presented the Race Director’s Award. Klager is a member of the Kart Tech Team and is involved in presenting the annual pre-season Kart School. The Beamsville Driver is also known to help out any karter – encouraging the future of the sport.  

Since the close of the racing season, the Kart Track has once again under went some changes as it has been stretched to more of an oval shape and has increased banking in preparation for the 2007 season.
